Inspect the shackle before each use. Check that the markings are legible, the pin and body threads are undamaged, and the body and pin are not distorted, worn, nicked, gouged, cracked or corroded. Do not heat treat, weld, bend or reshape a shackle, and do not replace the pin with a screw or bolt, as this affects the WLL. A safety bolt type shackle must always be used with its split cotter pin. Lifting equipment must be used within its marked working load limit (WLL), inspected before each use, and selected and used in line with your site lifting procedure and the relevant Australian Standards.
