Bordo 3/8" Reduced Shank Drill Bright/Black HSS - Imperial
- Reduced shank HSS twist drill.
- 118° notched point with 30° helix.
- Notched point is a variation on the standard chisel point, providing faster starting and reduced drill wander.
- 118° point angles are ideal for use in materials such as mild steel and cast iron.
- The 118° point creates easily controlled chips which are wide and thin.
- Bordo reduced shank HSS drills are ground and then a black finish is achieved by steam tempering, a thermal process resulting in a porous tool coating.
- This surface aids chip flow and heat dissipation.
- The drill is then ground a second time to achieve a bright finish on the shank and cutting edges.
Drill Bit Surface Treatment Bright/Black Finish
- These drills are ground and then a black finish is achieved by steam tempering, a thermal process resulting in a porous tool coating.
- This surface aids chip flow and heat dissipation.
- The drill is then ground a second time to achieve a bright finish on the shank and cutting edges.
Drill Bit Materials High Speed Steel (HSS)
- Bordo HSS drills are ground from premium quality M2 high speed steel.
- HSS can withstand higher operating temperatures than carbon steel without losing its temper (hardness).
- This property allows HSS to cut faster than high carbon steel, hence the name high speed steel.
- M2 HSS is an alloyed steel in the tungsten-molybdenum series which typically contains 4% Chromium, 5% Molybdenum, 6% Tungsten, 2% Vanadium and 1% Carbon(approx. by % wt).
- The material is also subject to high temperature heat treatment to complete the process.
- HSS has a very high wear resistance, a bending strength up to 4700MPa with high toughness and themoplasticity.
- HSS drills are ideal for general purpose use in a wide variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, timber, and plastic.
