Thimbles are pieces of hardware that consist of a metal bent to a pear-shaped profile that has an outer score where the wire rope sits. They are inserted into the eyes of cables and rope slings to provide a solid barrier between the fragile wire rope strands and the connected rigging fittings. This protects the shape of the eye from deformation and abrasion due to friction and excessive movements. Wire rope thimbles are used in lifting, securing, or suspending a load in various construction, marine, industrial, and logistics applications.
