Pferd Policap Abrasive Caps for Internal Grinding and Surface Finishing on Die Grinders

Abrasive caps are conical or shaped abrasive tools mounted on a cap holder (arbor) and used in a die grinder or pencil grinder to finish, deburr and blend internal surfaces — bores, holes, internal radii, weld seams on pipe bores and castings — where a flat abrasive wheel or disc cannot reach.

The Pferd Policap range uses a cap-and-holder system: the abrasive cap slips onto a matching rubber or plastic holder and is replaced when worn, without needing to remove or replace the holder.

This system reduces consumable cost, improves safety (no exposed mounting hardware) and allows rapid cap changes during production finishing work. AIMS Industrial sells Pferd Policap abrasive cap and holder products from Pferd — a German abrasive manufacturer with over 175 years of experience producing premium grinding, finishing and cutting abrasive products for metalworking, fabrication and surface treatment applications worldwide.

The Abrasive Caps & Holders Range

Our range covers Pferd Policap abrasive caps in four shapes (A, C, G and L), three abrasive types (aluminium oxide, ceramic oxide and silicon carbide), plus matching cap holders, spiral band rubber drum holders and combination sets.

  • Shape A (Conical): The standard conical profile for finishing internal bores, holes and cylindrical surfaces. The A shape is the most versatile and widely used Policap shape for general internal deburring and finishing in steel and aluminium.
  • Shape C (Cylindrical/Ogive): A rounder profile suited to finishing curved internal surfaces, internal radii and fillet welds. The C shape reduces the risk of gouging or stepping the surface compared to a sharper conical cap.
  • Shape G: A bullet-nosed profile for reaching into restricted internal geometries and finishing the bottoms of blind bores and tapered cavities.
  • Shape L (Long): An elongated version of the A or C profile for reaching deep into long bores, pipes and tubular sections where a standard-length cap cannot reach the work surface.
  • Aluminium Oxide (AO): Standard abrasive for steel, cast iron and general metalworking. Cost-effective and widely stocked — the first choice for most internal finishing operations on ferrous metals.
  • Ceramic Oxide COOL: Premium ceramic abrasive with a self-sharpening microcrystalline structure and low heat generation. Preferred for stainless steel, high-alloy steels and heat-sensitive materials where discolouration from grinding heat is not acceptable.
  • Silicon Carbide (SiC): For finishing non-ferrous metals (aluminium, copper, brass, titanium) and non-metallic materials. Silicon carbide maintains its hardness in non-ferrous materials where aluminium oxide would load up and glaze.
  • Combination Sets: Mixed sets — including the 650-piece mixed set — provide a workshop with a broad range of cap shapes and abrasive types in a single purchase, covering most internal finishing applications without sourcing individual caps.
