Abrasive Types and Grit

Antislip safety tape uses either aluminium oxide or silicon carbide abrasive grain bonded to a conformable backing, with the grit determining the level of grip. Coarse grit tapes (46–60 grit) provide maximum grip for industrial environments, outdoor ramps, loading docks and any surface exposed to oil, water and contamination. Medium grit (80 grit) balances grip with comfort underfoot for general industrial and commercial use on stairs and walkways. Fine grit options provide a less aggressive surface for light-duty applications and indoor commercial environments where a milder grip texture is acceptable.

Colours and Visibility

Black antislip tape is the standard industrial format, suited to factory floors, platforms and general workshop stairs where aesthetics are not the primary consideration. Yellow antislip tape serves the dual function of slip resistance and hazard marking — used on stair nosings, aisle edges, loading area boundaries and any floor position where visual warning as well as grip is required. Clear antislip tape allows the floor or surface colour to show through, making it the preferred choice in commercial and retail environments where signage or decorative flooring finishes must be preserved.

Application and Surfaces

Antislip tapes are pressure-sensitive adhesive applied — the surface must be clean, dry and free of dust, wax and loose paint before application. Most quality antislip tapes adhere well to timber, painted steel, aluminium, concrete, ceramic tile and fibreglass. In outdoor or wet environments, pressing the edges firmly down and applying a sealant bead along the long edges extends the tape life significantly by preventing moisture ingress under the edge.

Widths and Roll Lengths

Standard widths range from 25mm for stair nosings and edge marking through to 100mm and wider for full stair tread coverage and ramp surfaces. Custom-width strips and pre-cut stair tread shapes are also available for specific installation requirements.
