Bearing Housings

Bearing housings mount and protect bearings in industrial machinery, providing a fixed or adjustable mounting point that locates the bearing relative to the shaft and machine frame. They are used across conveyors, fans, pumps, agricultural equipment, and general factory machinery wherever a shaft must be supported at a fixed point on the structure. Types of Bearing Housings

Bearing housings come in several configurations to suit different shaft orientations and mounting requirements.

• Pillow block (plummer block) housings: Two-bolt or four-bolt base mounting. The most common type — shaft runs parallel to the mounting surface. Suits horizontal shaft applications including conveyor rollers, fans, and pumps.
• Flanged housings: Bolt face-to-face onto a structure or plate. Suited to vertical shafts or where base mounting is not practical. Two, three, and four-bolt flange patterns are available to suit different mounting configurations.
• Take-up housings: Adjustable in the mounting slot to allow belt or chain tension adjustment. Common on conveyor drives and belt-driven machinery where periodic tensioning is required.
• Cartridge housings: Compact, sealed housing for space-constrained applications. Common in agricultural equipment and light to medium industrial machinery.

Cast Iron vs Pressed Steel

Cast iron housings are the industrial standard for most applications — good rigidity, good vibration damping, and long service life under load. Pressed steel housings are lighter and lower cost, suited to agricultural and light-duty industrial applications where cast iron weight is a disadvantage. For heavy-duty, continuous-operation applications, cast iron is the correct choice.

Matching Housings to Bearing Inserts

Bearing housings and inserts are paired by series — a UC200-series insert fits a UC200-series housing, for example. Always match the bearing insert designation to the correct housing series when ordering. Mixing series causes incorrect fit and premature bearing failure.
