Buttweld Pipe Fittings — Welded Steel Fittings for High-Integrity Industrial Pipework
Buttweld fittings are steel pipe fittings designed to be welded directly to pipe — providing the strongest, most leak-resistant connection available for industrial pipework. Unlike threaded or compression fittings, buttweld joints become a continuous welded structure with the pipe, making them the standard choice for high-pressure, high-temperature and corrosive service. AIMS Industrial stocks AAP buttweld fittings in standard and extra-heavy wall configurations.
The AAP Buttweld Range
90° Short Radius Elbows are used where a compact direction change is required and pipe routing space is limited. The short radius (1D centre-line radius) is used in tight pipe runs but creates higher pressure drop than long radius bends.
90° Long Radius Elbows are the standard elbow for most industrial pipework — the 1.5D centre-line radius provides lower pressure drop and reduced erosion compared to short radius fittings. Specified in standard and extra-heavy wall.
45° Long Radius Elbows are used for gradual direction changes — generating less turbulence and pressure drop than a 90° elbow, and preferred in slurry and abrasive fluid service.
180° Long Radius Return Bends are used in heat exchangers, coils and U-bend configurations where the pipe direction is completely reversed.
Concentric Reducers connect pipes of different nominal bore while maintaining a common centreline — used at pump inlets, valve connections and diameter transitions in process pipework.
Wall Thickness
Standard wall (Std) fittings are suitable for general industrial pipework. Extra-strong (X-Stg) fittings are specified for high-pressure systems, corrosive service where wall thinning is expected, and applications governed by pressure vessel and boiler codes (AS 4041, ASME B31.3).
Standards
AAP buttweld fittings are manufactured to ASME B16.9 (Factory-Made Wrought Buttwelding Fittings). Material grades are to ASTM A234 (carbon steel). Always confirm the pressure-temperature rating and material grade for your system design pressure.
