Choosing a chisel
Start with what you are cutting. Cold chisels are for metal and are struck with a hammer. SDS masonry chisels are for brick and concrete and fit SDS hammers, so check whether your tool takes SDS Plus or SDS Max before you order. Air chisel bits must match the shank on your air hammer, and Trax lists most bits in both round and hex versions. The flat, pointed and chasing profiles do different work: points break, flats trim and square up, and chasing chisels cut channels. Always check the data sheet.

Chisel FAQs
What is the difference between a cold chisel and a masonry chisel?
A cold chisel is a hand tool for cutting metal and is driven with a hammer. A masonry chisel is for brick and concrete, and the SDS versions fit an SDS hammer drill or breaker rather than being struck by hand.
What is the difference between SDS Plus and SDS Max?
They are two different shank sizes. SDS Plus suits lighter hammer drills and SDS Max suits larger, heavier hammers. The shank must match your tool, so check which one you have.
Do I need a round or a hex shank air chisel bit?
Match the shank on your air hammer. Trax lists the same bits in both round and hex shank, so choose the one that fits your tool.
