Industrial Workwear & Clothing
Industrial workwear must balance protection, compliance, and comfort. Workers who spend long days in PPE clothing need garments that perform in Australian conditions — durable enough to withstand regular use, compliant with site requirements, and practical enough to work in all day. AIMS Industrial supplies workwear and safety clothing for trades, engineering, mining, and construction environments across Australia.
Hi-Visibility Clothing
Hi-visibility garments are required on most Australian worksites under Work Health and Safety regulations. Hi-vis clothing is manufactured to AS/NZS 4602.1, which specifies fluorescent background fabric, retroreflective tape placement, and garment class. Class D (day only) and Class D/N (day and night) are the two main designations — Class D/N with retroreflective tape is required wherever workers may be exposed to traffic or moving plant at night or in poor visibility. Hi-vis shirts, polo shirts, and jackets are the most common garments required at AIMS's customer sites.
Protective Work Shirts and Pants
Work shirts for industrial environments are constructed from heavier fabric weights than standard apparel — typically 190–210 gsm cotton or cotton-polyester blends that resist snags, abrasion, and light chemical contact better than lighter garments. Long-sleeve styles provide sun protection (UPF ratings are available) and arm protection in environments with grinding, welding flash, or abrasive materials. Cargo pants and work shorts with reinforced knees and multiple utility pockets are the standard for trade and maintenance roles.
Safety Vests
Safety vests are the most widely used hi-vis garment — worn over standard clothing when a full hi-vis shirt is not required or where task-specific visibility is needed without changing the full outfit. Mesh vests are preferred in hot conditions for airflow. Solid polyester vests provide greater visibility in dusty environments where mesh fabric would obscure the retroreflective tape pattern.
Selection for Your Environment
Workwear selection should be matched to the specific hazards present. Welding environments require flame-resistant (FR) rated fabrics — standard cotton or polyester blends are not adequate where molten metal splash or arc flash risk exists. Chemical handling requires chemical-resistant fabrics or coveralls rated for the specific chemicals in use. Electrical work requires arc-rated PPE where arc flash risk has been identified in the electrical hazard assessment. Sun protection is also a consideration for outdoor workers — long-sleeve UPF50+ rated shirts are the appropriate specification for extended outdoor work in Australian conditions.
