Choosing first aid supplies
Start with what you are stocking: a ready-made kit for a vehicle or low risk workplace, or individual items to build or refill a kit. For eye hazards, keep an eye rinse where the hazard is and within easy reach, and add eye pads for covering an injured eye afterwards. In food handling areas, blue detectable strips and dressings are easier to spot if one comes off. Pick hot and cold packs, splints and the thermal blanket to match the injuries you are most likely to see.
The first aid supplies a workplace needs depend on the number of people, the type of work and its hazards, so check your risk assessment and the first aid requirements that apply in your state before choosing. Check dates on dressings, wipes and packs and replace anything used or expired.
