| UNC / UNF Imperial | US-origin equipment |
| BSW (Whitworth) | Older AU + UK |
Critical: Match NUT CLASS to BOLT CLASS — mixing weakens joint to lower class. NEVER mix stainless + carbon steel (galvanic corrosion). Brands: Bremick, Hobson, Inox World. Companion: nuts, hex bolts, fasteners.
Hex Nuts — Full Range in Metric and Imperial
Hex nuts are one of the most fundamental fasteners in engineering and construction, used in combination with bolts and threaded rod to create clamped joints across virtually every industry and application. AIMS stocks hex nuts in a comprehensive range of thread sizes, materials, and coating options to cover standard maintenance and repair needs, structural and high-tensile applications, and corrosion-resistant requirements in challenging environments. We carry both metric and imperial thread forms in stock quantities suitable for individual requirements through to production and construction project supply.
Material and Grade Options
Zinc-plated carbon steel hex nuts in Grade 8 (ISO property class 8) are the standard for most general engineering and maintenance applications and provide a good combination of mechanical strength and corrosion resistance for indoor and sheltered uses. Hot-dip galvanised hex nuts are specified for outdoor structural applications, infrastructure, and construction where long-term atmospheric corrosion resistance is required. Stainless steel hex nuts in Grade 304 provide good corrosion resistance for general wet and chemical environments, while 316 stainless steel is the specification for marine, coastal, food processing, and chemical processing applications where chloride exposure is a factor. High-tensile nuts to ISO 10S and equivalent standards are available for bolted structural connections and heavy engineering applications.
Standard and Heavy Hex
Standard hex nuts are the most commonly used and are proportioned for use with standard hex bolts and cap screws. Heavy hex nuts have a larger across-flats dimension and thicker body, providing greater bearing area and strength for high-load applications, heavy structural bolting, and anchor rod connections. Nyloc (nylon insert lock) nuts provide resistance to loosening under vibration and dynamic loads and are widely used in automotive, machinery, and equipment assembly where joint integrity under vibration is critical. Flange nuts combine a hex nut with an integral flanged bearing surface that distributes clamping load and eliminates the need for a separate washer in most applications.
AIMS maintains stock of hex nuts across the full standard size range for same-day or next-day dispatch. For project quantities, mixed packs, or non-standard specifications, contact our team.
Nyloc and Flange Nuts
Nyloc (nylon insert) lock nuts provide resistance to loosening under vibration and dynamic loads, widely used in automotive, machinery, and equipment assembly where joint integrity under vibration is critical. Flange nuts combine a hex nut with an integral flanged bearing surface that distributes clamping load and eliminates the need for a separate washer in most standard assembly applications, simplifying the joint and reducing assembly time on high-volume production operations.
