Choosing the right strap

• Light loads (under 200kg pallet) — polypropylene strapping; economical and adequate
• Medium loads (200-1000kg pallet) — polyester strapping; better tensile strength and lower stretch
• Heavy loads (1000kg+) — steel or composite strapping; highest strength and creep resistance
• Long-distance transport — polyester or composite; lower stretch maintains tension over time
• Sharp-edged loads — composite strapping doesn't cut on edges the way steel can damage operators handling the load

Australian load restraint compliance

Strapping used as primary load restraint on Australian roads must comply with the NTC Load Restraint Guide. Polypropylene and polyester strapping are typically not rated as primary load restraint — they're packaging restraint. For primary load restraint on transport, ratchet straps, chain, or similar rated systems are required. Use strapping for packaging integrity and the rated systems for legal load restraint.
