TechTop Motor Range — Quick Reference

TechTop manufactures IE2 and IE3 energy-efficient AC induction motors to IEC 60072 frame standards. The aluminium-frame range is the workshop default; cast-iron frames suit demanding industrial environments. AIMS stocks single phase (240V) and three phase (415V) configurations from 0.18 kW to 30 kW in standard frame sizes.

Series Type Supply kW Range Frame Best For
TML Single Phase 240V 0.18 - 3.0 Aluminium General-purpose, light workshop
TML Dual Single Phase 240V/110V 0.18 - 1.5 Aluminium Flexible supply requirements
TMY Single Phase (CSCR) 240V 0.37 - 3.0 Aluminium Compressors, pumps — high starting torque
TAI Three Phase 415V 0.18 - 30 Aluminium Workshop & industrial — most common pick
TCI Three Phase 415V 0.18 - 30 Cast Iron Heavy vibration, high-temp, mining
TAI-BHR Three Phase + Brake 415V 0.37 - 7.5 Aluminium Conveyors, hoists — needs hold/stop control

2-pole (3000 RPM), 4-pole (1500 RPM) and 6-pole (1000 RPM) variants available across the range. B3 foot mount and B5 flange mount standard. For motor selection help across frame, voltage and mounting, call (02) 9773 0122.

TechTop Electric Motors

AIMS Industrial is a stocking distributor of TechTop electric motors for industrial and commercial applications. TechTop manufactures IE2 and IE3 energy-efficient AC induction motors that meet Australian and international efficiency standards, backed by a comprehensive range of frame sizes, mounting configurations and voltage options.

Single Phase Motors (240V)

The TML aluminium single phase motor range covers general purpose applications operating on standard 240V single phase supply. TML Dual Voltage motors provide flexibility for sites with varying supply requirements. The TMY series covers capacitor-start capacitor-run configurations for applications requiring higher starting torque, such as compressors and pumps. Aluminium frames provide a lightweight, corrosion-resistant solution for a wide range of environments.

Three Phase Motors (415V)

TechTop 415V three phase motors are available in aluminium frame (TAI) and cast iron frame (TCI) construction. Aluminium frame motors are the standard choice for most industrial applications, offering a good balance of weight, thermal performance and corrosion resistance. Cast iron frames are selected for demanding environments with heavy vibration, higher ambient temperatures or where greater mechanical robustness is required. 2, 4 and 6 pole configurations cover synchronous speeds from 3000 to 1000 RPM. B3 foot mount and B5 flange mount options are stocked.

Brake Motors

TAI-BHR brake motor variants integrate a spring-applied, electrically-released brake for applications requiring controlled stopping or holding under load — conveyors, hoists, positioning drives and similar equipment where inertial run-on is unacceptable.

Motor Selection

Key selection parameters are output kW, supply voltage, pole number (speed), frame size and mounting configuration. IE3 efficiency class motors are increasingly specified for new installations to meet energy efficiency requirements. People Also Ask — TechTop Electric Motors

Q: What is TechTop?

TechTop is the electric motor brand AIMS exclusively supplies — three-phase induction motors (415V), single-phase motors (240V), brake motors, and specialty motors for industrial applications. TechTop is widely used in Australian workshops, manufacturing, agriculture, and OEM equipment. Motor sizes 0.18kW through to 200kW+. AIMS doesn't stock other motor brands (WEG, CMG etc.) — for AIMS supply, TechTop is the recommendation. See [Electric Motor Selection Guide](/blogs/product-guides/blog-electric-motor-selection-guide).

Q: Single-phase or three-phase motor?

Single-phase (240V): residential and small commercial supply, lower power capacity (typically up to 3kW), suitable for workshop tools, small pumps, and equipment where three-phase isn't available. Three-phase (415V): commercial and industrial supply, higher efficiency, broader power range (up to 100s of kW), required for most industrial machinery. Match motor type to available supply. Converting single-phase to three-phase via VFD is possible for specific applications (variable speed drives input single-phase, output three-phase).

Q: What efficiency class is TechTop?

TechTop motors are typically IE2 (high efficiency) or IE3 (premium efficiency) class per IEC 60034-30-1. Australian MEPS (Minimum Energy Performance Standards) require IE3 for new motor sales in most applications. IE3 motors use less energy than older IE1/IE2 motors — pay back the small premium through electricity savings over the motor's life. For continuous-duty motors (running 24/7), efficiency improvements are particularly valuable.

Q: Standard or brake motor?

Standard motor: rotates when powered, coasts to stop when power removed (kinetic energy dissipates as friction over seconds to minutes). Brake motor: integrated brake stops the motor immediately when power is removed — essential for positioning applications, lifting equipment, conveyors that must stop on demand, and safety-critical machinery. Don't substitute standard for brake motors in lifting or positioning applications — uncontrolled coasting can cause accidents.

Q: How do I match a motor to my application?

Five key parameters: (1) power requirement (kW), (2) speed (poles determine RPM: 2-pole = 2900 RPM, 4-pole = 1450 RPM, 6-pole = 970 RPM at 50Hz), (3) frame size (B3 foot-mount, B5 flange-mount), (4) shaft dimensions (must match driven equipment), (5) IP rating (IP55 standard workshop, IP66 outdoor/washdown). Match all five to the equipment's spec. For replacement, copy the existing motor's nameplate exactly. For new design, work from the driven equipment's requirements.
