AIMS Industrial stocks a full range of Loctite threadlockers — anaerobic adhesive compounds that cure in the absence of air to lock threaded fasteners and prevent loosening from vibration, shock and thermal cycling. From low-strength service-removable grades to high-strength permanent locking compounds, the Loctite threadlocker range covers every bolted joint requirement across maintenance, manufacturing and engineering applications.
Loctite threadlocker grades:
- Loctite 222 (Purple — Low Strength) — For small fasteners M6 and below. Service-removable by hand or standard tools after cure. Used for adjustment screws, set screws and instrument fasteners where future disassembly is expected.
- Loctite 243 (Blue — Medium Strength) — The most widely used threadlocker. Removable with standard hand tools. Suitable for M6 to M20 fasteners in general engineering, maintenance and manufacturing. Oil-tolerant formula works on lightly oiled surfaces without pre-cleaning.
- Loctite 263 (Red — High Strength) — Permanent locking for M20 and above, or wherever fasteners must not release in service. Requires localised heat (~250°C) for disassembly. Used on studs, bolts and shaft fasteners subject to heavy vibration.
- Loctite 271 (Red — High Strength) — Similar high-strength permanent locking to 263 with slightly higher viscosity and gap-filling capability for coarser threads.
- Loctite 648 (Green — Retaining Compound) — High-strength retaining compound for cylindrical press-fit assemblies — bearings, bushings, sleeves and keyways. Fills gaps up to 0.15mm to eliminate fretting and increase joint strength significantly over interference fit alone.
Threadlockers eliminate the need for lock washers, lock nuts and secondary mechanical locking in vibrating machinery. A properly selected and applied threadlocker is the most reliable and cost-effective fastener retention method available.
