Buy Welding Chemicals Online in Australia

Welding chemicals are the consumables that keep a weld bay running cleanly: anti-spatter to stop spatter sticking to the job and the torch, nozzle dip gels, a wire cleaning and lubricating pad, and pickling products for stainless steel. AIMS carries them from Weld-Aid (CRC), Bossweld, CRC, Loctite, Wurex and Pelox. Our guide Weld Like A Pro With CRC Weld-Aid covers how the Weld-Aid products are used.

Always read the label and safety data sheet. Many anti-spatter products are flammable, and pickling products are corrosive.

Choosing a Welding Chemical

Anti-spatter

Anti-spatter is applied to the workpiece, fixtures and nozzle area before welding so spatter wipes off instead of welding on. Aerosols are quick to use around the weld zone. Water-based products such as Bossweld Blue avoid solvent fumes, and bulk packs suit a busy shop. Check the data sheet if the part is going to be painted or coated afterwards, as some products need to be cleaned off first.

Nozzle dip gels

Dip gels are used on the hot nozzle and tip during MIG welding to help keep spatter from building up. Follow the maker's instructions for when and how to dip.

Pickling stainless steel

Pickling paste and spray remove the heat tint and discolouration left around stainless steel welds. They are corrosive, so wear the PPE the safety data sheet calls for and dispose of waste properly. See Pelox.

Safety and storage

Keep aerosols and solvent-based products away from sparks and hot work, store them as the label says, and use them in a ventilated area. See Welding Safety Equipment for protective gear.

People Also Ask — Welding Chemicals

What does anti-spatter do?

It leaves a film on the work, fixtures and nozzle area so weld spatter doesn't stick and can be wiped or brushed off, which saves clean-up time.

Water-based or aerosol anti-spatter?

Aerosols are quick and convenient for spot application. Water-based products such as Bossweld Blue avoid solvent fumes. Check the data sheet for flammability, drying time and suitability if the part will be painted afterwards.

What is a nozzle dip gel for?

It is applied to a hot MIG nozzle and tip to help stop spatter building up. See the Weld-Aid Nozzle-Dip HD and the Bossweld Tip Dip Gel.

What is pickling paste used for?

It removes the heat tint and discolouration around stainless steel welds. It is corrosive, so follow the safety data sheet.

Can I spray anti-spatter on a hot torch?

Check the label. Many aerosol anti-spatter products are flammable, so don't spray them near an arc, a hot torch or sparks unless the maker says it is safe to.
