The Bossweld Multi-Pack Tungsten Electrodes put ten 178 mm electrodes in one pack, in four tungsten types and two diameters, so you can match the electrode to the job without buying a full pack of each. The pack holds 2 x 1.6 mm thoriated, 2 x 2.4 mm thoriated, 1 x 1.6 mm ceriated, 1 x 2.4 mm ceriated, 1 x 1.6 mm zirconated, 1 x 2.4 mm zirconated, 1 x 1.6 mm lanthanated and 1 x 2.4 mm lanthanated.

It suits a workshop that welds on both AC and DC, or anyone trying different tungsten types before buying in bulk. Thoriated electrodes are for DC, zirconated electrodes are made for AC, and ceriated and lanthanated electrodes work on both. Thoriated tungsten contains thorium oxide, which is weakly radioactive. The risk is mainly from grinding dust, so grind with extraction, keep the dust away from food and drink, and follow the manufacturer's safety data sheet and your site procedures.

Key specifications

Selecting the right option

Use the thoriated electrodes for DC work, the zirconated electrodes for AC welding of aluminium, and the ceriated or lanthanated electrodes where you want one electrode that handles both. Grind the tip to a taper with the grinding marks running along the length of the electrode, and use a wheel kept for tungsten only so the tip stays clean. If you weld mostly with one tungsten type and size, the single-type packs are the better buy.
