CRC Disc Brake Quiet is an elastomeric multi-polymer compound, specially formulated to dampen the vibrations that cause disc brake noises. It is an orange/red paste supplied in a 118ml squeeze pack.

It is applied to the back steel of the brake pads, never to the brake linings. CRC lists it for all types of disc brakes on cars, 4WDs, industrial machinery disc braking systems, fork lifts, tractors, farm equipment and cement trucks.

Selecting the right option

CRC's directions call for the steel brake backing plates to be cleaned with CRC Brakleen before application; see CRC Brake & Parts Cleaner and CRC Brakleen Non Chlorinated Brake & Parts Cleaner 400g.

Using it

Read the directions, switch off and de-energise. Shake the bottle well and clean all steel brake backing plates with CRC Brakleen first.

Apply liberally to the back steel (or gasket) of both outboard pads and spread evenly over the entire surface. Apply one applicator-width strip to the back steel of each inboard pad. Do not apply to brake linings.

Allow 10 minutes to set; the pads may be installed when tacky. Replace the cap after use.

CRC's product page says it can be removed with a degreaser or brake cleaner product.

Storage and handling

Replace the cap after use. CRC gives a conditional warranty of 5 years from the date of manufacture.

Limits and safety

The safety data sheet (06 Oct 2022) states it is not classified as hazardous according to Safe Work Australia criteria, with no signal word, pictograms or hazard statements, and not a dangerous good under ADG, IMDG or IATA. Apply to the back steel of the pads only and keep it off the brake linings. Read the safety data sheet before use.
