Sutton #20 (4.09mm) D130 Tupoint Panel Drill Bit - Cobalt - Pack of 10
Out of stock
The Sutton D130 is a double-ended panel drill in 5% cobalt high speed steel (HSS-Co) with a colour temp finish and a 135° standard point. It is a Tupoint drill for rivet holes in sheet metal fabrication, and each pack holds 10 drills. This range has 4 sizes, 1/8 in (3.18 mm), #30 (3.26 mm), #20 (4.09 mm) and #11 (4.85 mm), all 54 mm overall length.
The double-ended rigid design is for through-hole drilling, and turning the drill around for the second end doubles the life of the drill. The 135° self-centring point minimises wandering when starting a hole and suits thin materials. The flute length is made for shallow holes no deeper than 1.25 × the diameter. Tupoint drills need the chuck jaws fully tightened.
Where this product is used
- Drilling holes for rivets in flat and curved panels in sheet metal fabrication.
- Through-hole drilling in thin sheet, where the double-ended rigid drill and self-centring point keep the start accurate.
- Tougher materials such as stainless steel, where the 5% cobalt formula improves abrasion and heat resistance.
- Hole depths no deeper than 1.25 × Ø.
- Also rated Effective: ferritic and martensitic stainless steels; austenitic stainless steel; duplex stainless steel; ferritic / pearlitic grey cast iron; ferritic nodular cast iron; malleable cast iron; and chilled cast iron.
- Rated Optimal for some grades and Effective for others: non-alloy steels; low-alloy steels; and high-alloy and tool steels.
Finish
The colour temp finish is a colour-tempered surface that identifies the tool as cobalt high speed steel. The 5% cobalt content improves abrasion and heat resistance for increased strength at higher cutting temperatures.
Sizes and item numbers
Every size in the range, with its Sutton item number and the rivet size it suits. Each item is a pack of 10 drills. Flute length (l2), overall length (l1) and shank diameter (d2) are in millimetres.
| Size | Item no. | Diameter d1 (mm) | Rivet size | Flute length l2 (mm) | Overall length l1 (mm) | Shank d2 (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1/8 in | D130 0318 | 3.18 | 3.00 mm | 15.9 | 54 | 3.18 |
| #30 | D130 0326 | 3.26 | 3.18 mm (1/8 in) | 15.9 | 54 | 3.26 |
| #20 | D130 0409 | 4.09 | 3.97 mm (5/32 in) | 15.9 | 54 | 4.09 |
| #11 | D130 0485 | 4.85 | 4.76 mm (3/16 in) | 15.9 | 54 | 4.85 |
Drilling notes
- Tighten the chuck jaws fully: Tupoint drills need a fully tightened chuck.
- Use for shallow holes no deeper than 1.25 × Ø.
- When one end is blunt, turn the drill around and use the other end.
- No speed table is published for the D130. Use the D109 cobalt jobber drill table (the same 5% cobalt substrate and colour temp finish) as a sensible reference for starting speed, adjusted for the machine, set-up and coolant.
Accuracy
The size table gives the drill diameter (d1) tolerance as h8. An h8 drill diameter may be at nominal or smaller, never larger.
| Drill diameter (mm) | h8 tolerance (minus only, ISO 286-2) |
|---|---|
| 0.2 to 3 | 14 µm |
| 3 to 6 | 18 µm |
| 6 to 10 | 22 µm |
| 10 to 18 | 27 µm |
| 18 to 30 | 33 µm |
| 30 to 50 | 39 µm |
Troubleshooting
- Drill breaks. Dull point: sharpen; Drill has front taper due to wearing: sharpen; Insufficient lip clearance on point: grind correctly; Lip clearance too great: regrind to correct clearance angle.
- Outer corner breaks down. Flutes clogged with chips: remove drill from hole and clear the flutes; Cutting speed too high: reduce speed; Dry cutting, no lubricant at cutting edges: apply cutting fluid.
- Cutting edges chip. Lip clearance too great: regrind to correct clearance angle; Feed too heavy: reduce feed.
- Hole rough. Dull point: sharpen; Feed too heavy: reduce feed; Dry cutting, no lubricant at cutting edges: apply cutting fluid; Fixture/clamping not rigid: secure job firmly.
- Hole oversize. Unequal angle or uneven length of cutting edges: regrind to same lip lengths and angles; Spindle run-out / loose spindle: check machine.
