Sutton M500W35 35 Piece BSW Tap and Die Set - Carbon Steel

The Sutton M500W35 is a 35 piece BSW (British Standard Whitworth) tap and die set. It contains 10 taper taps and 10 bottoming taps (one of each per size), 10 button dies, #1 and #4 bar type tap wrenches and 1 inch and 2 inch button die holders, plus a bonus thread pitch gauge. The taps cut internal threads and the button dies cut or clean up external threads on studs and bolts.

The taps and dies are carbon alloy steel for general purpose and DIY use. They are not suitable for precision, safety or critical threads. The set comes in a metal case with a layout chart that shows where each item sits.

Taper taps are used when the material is difficult to work (alloy steel) and are recommended for small diameter threads. Bottoming taps have a continuous cutting edge with almost no taper and are usually used to cut threads to the bottom of a blind hole.
