The UNC Standard Hex Nut, 316 Stainless Steel is a six-sided nut that screws onto a bolt, stud or threaded rod and is tightened with a spanner or socket.
The range runs to 14 variants, covering sizes 10-24 to 1-3/4". Variants are supplied in packs of 10 to 200, depending on size.
Made from 316 (A4) stainless steel, the grade normally specified for chloride-exposed work such as coastal installations, swimming pools, marine fittings and food-processing plant. UNC (Unified National Coarse) is the coarse inch-based thread. Small sizes are given as a number and threads per inch, such as 8-32 or 10-24, and larger sizes as fractions of an inch.
Stainless threads can gall (seize) when tightened under load or at speed. A smear of anti-seize on the thread and a steady tightening speed reduce the risk.

Selecting the right option
Match the nut to the bolt: thread system, diameter and pitch must all agree, and metric, UNC and BSW nuts do not interchange. Where a nut is tightened repeatedly, use anti-seize, because stainless threads can gall. Where chlorides are not a concern, the A2 (304) version costs less: UNC Standard Hex Nut - 304 Stainless Steel.
