• Cutting fluid: Always use cutting oil with hand reamers in steel — dry reaming accelerates blade wear and produces a poor surface finish.
• Feed rate: Apply steady, constant downward pressure during forward rotation — never rotate backwards, as this dulls cutting edges rapidly.
• Blade adjustment: Adjust blades evenly around the periphery to maintain concentricity — uneven adjustment causes bore taper and poor finish.
