Grind, Shape and Deburr Metal Precisely with Carbide Burrs from Sutton Tools, Pferd and P&N
Carbide burrs — also known as rotary files or die grinder burrs — are solid tungsten carbide cutting tools used in die grinders, air grinders, flexible shaft machines and pendant drills to remove material, deburr edges, blend weld toes, shape profiles and clean up casting flash in metal workpieces.
The tungsten carbide cutting edges are significantly harder and longer-lasting than high-speed steel burrs, making them the standard choice for engineering, toolmaking, die casting, foundry and heavy fabrication environments where sustained, precision material removal in difficult locations is required.
AIMS Industrial sells over 200 burr products from from Sutton Tools, Pferd and P&N — precision cutting tool and abrasive brands with a strong presence in the Australian engineering and toolroom markets.
The Carbide Burrs Range
Our massive product range covers tungsten carbide burrs in the full range of standard profiles, head diameters and shank sizes for die grinder and pneumatic grinder use across engineering, fabrication, casting and maintenance applications.
- Sutton Tools: Sutton Tools supplies the largest range of carbide burrs, covering all standard profiles in 6mm shank configurations. Sutton Tools is an Australian precision cutting tool manufacturer with over 100 years of manufacturing history. Their carbide burrs are produced to precise dimensional and geometry standards and are widely used in Australian engineering workshops, toolrooms and maintenance operations.
- Pferd: Pferd supplies premium carbide burrs as part of their comprehensive metalworking tool range. Pferd’s CAST (aluminium and cast iron) and STEEL (steel and stainless) dedicated carbide burr formulations are engineered to the specific material properties of the workpiece, providing optimal cutting efficiency and burr life on each material type.
- P&N: P&N supplies carbide burrs for engineering and maintenance applications. P&N is an established Australian cutting tool brand producing a range of carbide burrs and related tooling for the engineering trades.
Choosing the Right Carbide Burr
Carbide burr selection depends on the profile required for the job, the shank size, the cutting direction and the workpiece material.
- Profile Selection: Cylindrical burrs suit flat surfaces and right-angle corners. Ball-nose and oval burrs are used for curved and concave profiles. Tree-shaped and tapered burrs are used for angled and tapered surfaces. Flame-shaped burrs suit curved surfaces and internal blending. Always match the burr profile to the geometry of the surface being worked.
- Shank Size: Standard die grinder collets accept 6mm (1/4") and 3mm (1/8") shanks. Confirm the collet size on your die grinder before selecting a burr. 6mm shank burrs suit heavy-duty work; 3mm shank burrs suit detail work in restricted access.
- Cut Direction: Single-cut (spiral) burrs cut on one helix direction, producing a coarser chip and faster material removal. Double-cut (cross-cut) burrs cut on both helix directions, producing finer chips, a smoother surface finish and less vibration. Double-cut is preferred for most metalworking applications.
