Die Grinder Selection — Quick Reference

Die grinders = high-speed rotary tools for grinding + deburring + porting + polishing + surface prep in CONFINED AREAS where angle grinders are too large. Pneumatic die grinders from Trax + Sutton in straight + right-angle configurations. 1/4" collet chuck standard.

Die Grinder Type Best For
Straight (In-Line) Die Grinder Internal grinding + bore work + general detail
Right-Angle (90°) Die Grinder Confined access + flat surface detail
Pneumatic 22,000 RPM Standard Workshop default — Trax + Sutton
Pneumatic Heavy-Duty (Production) Sustained-use production grinding
Cordless Die Grinder (18V) Mobile + service + no-air-supply environments
Electric Die Grinder (240V) Fixed workshop + sustained use without compressor
Flexible-Shaft Pendant Drive Precision detail + jewellery + small parts
1/4" Collet Chuck (Standard) Accepts 1/4" shank — mounted points + burrs + brushes
3mm Collet (Smaller Bits) Smaller bit shank accommodation
1/8" Collet (Imperial Small) US-spec smaller bits

Critical: Match bit MAX RPM to die grinder spec — 22,000 RPM tool requires 22,000+ RPM rated bits. Safety: full face shield + safety glasses + dust mask mandatory. Bits SHED material at high speed — fragments + dust hazard. Brand: Trax, Sutton Tools. Companion: pneumatics, mounted points, burrs, abrasives.

Die Grinders

Die grinders are high-speed rotary tools used for grinding, deburring, porting, polishing and surface preparation in confined areas where angle grinders are too large. AIMS Industrial stocks pneumatic die grinders from Trax and Sutton in straight and right-angle configurations, with 1/4" collet chuck as standard for all common die grinder bits, mounted points and carbide burrs.

Pneumatic Die Grinders

Air-powered die grinders are the standard in production environments and heavy workshops. Sutton and Trax pneumatic die grinders operate at up to 22,000 RPM and deliver consistent high-speed performance without heat buildup under sustained use. Straight-body configurations provide access to ports, cavities and internal surfaces; right-angle die grinders reach into corners and alongside surfaces where a straight body cannot be presented to the work.

Applications

  • Weld dressing — removing weld spatter and blending weld profiles on fabricated assemblies
  • Deburring and edge preparation — cleaning up machined edges, hole burrs and cast surfaces
  • Porting and profiling — enlarging, blending and polishing ports in cylinder heads and manifolds
  • Die and mould finishing — refining surface finish in cavities and cores with mounted points
  • Rust and coating removal — with wire cup brushes and cleaning discs in confined areas

Tooling Compatibility

1/4" collet die grinders accept all standard 1/4" shank carbide burrs, mounted grinding points, sanding drums, flap wheels and polishing bobs. For help selecting the right die grinder for your application, contact our team. AIMS Industrial has been supporting Australian workshops since 1988.
