The right castor determines how easily and safely your equipment, trolleys, and carts move through your facility. The AIMS Castor Range 

All castors in our range are from Easyroll or Colson — the world’s leading castors and wheels specialist — covering the full spectrum from light-duty workshop use to heavy industrial applications. 

• Swivel Castors:  Swivel castors allow 360° directional movement and are used at the front of trolleys and carts for steering. Available in rubber, urethane, and cast iron wheels across a full load rating range. Essential for manoeuvrable equipment in aisles and tight workspaces. 
• Fixed (Rigid) Castors:  Fixed castors travel in a straight line only and are fitted to the rear of trolleys for directional stability. Pairing two swivel castors at the front with two fixed castors at the rear is the standard configuration for trolleys and platform trucks. 
• Brake Castors:  Brake castors incorporate a foot-operated locking mechanism to immobilise the equipment when stationary. Required for workstations, tool cabinets, and any equipment that must remain fixed during use. 
• Mounting Types:   Colson & Easyroll castors are available in plate (top plate) mount, stem mount (threaded or push-in), and bolt-hole mount configurations. Match the mount type to your equipment’s existing castor socket or mounting plate hole pattern. 
• Wheel Materials:  Rubber wheels suit smooth indoor floors and reduce vibration and noise. Urethane wheels offer higher load capacity, chemical resistance, and floor protection. Cast iron wheels handle extreme loads. Pneumatic wheels provide shock absorption on rough outdoor surfaces. 

Selecting the Right Castor

• Load Rating: Divide the total equipment weight by the number of castors to determine the minimum load rating per castor. Add a 20–30% safety margin for dynamic loads from starting, stopping, and uneven surfaces.
• Floor Surface: Hard floors (concrete, tiles) — use rubber or urethane wheels to protect surfaces and reduce noise. Rough or outdoor surfaces — pneumatic wheels absorb shock and roll over obstacles. High-temperature environments — cast iron or phenolic wheels resist heat that would degrade rubber.
