Choosing a check valve
Start with the line: the size, the end connection (screwed, flanged, grooved, wafer, NPT or socketweld) and the pressure class. Then match the style to the job. Swing and wafer types suit larger lines, spring-loaded types can be fitted in more positions, and piston and ball types are used where a different closing action is wanted. Check that the body and seat material suit the fluid and temperature. Foot valves go on the end of a pump suction line to hold the prime. Always check the data sheet.

What is the difference between a swing, wafer and spring check valve?
A swing check has a hinged disc that swings open with flow. A wafer check is a compact body that fits between flanges. A spring check uses a spring to close the valve, so it can usually be fitted in more orientations. Check the installation limits on the data sheet.
What does a foot valve do?
A foot valve fits on the end of a pump suction line. It lets liquid in and stops it draining back, so the pump stays primed.
How do I choose the right size and connection?
