Cleaning & Moisture Management

Moisture and liquid contamination on workshop floors, in electrical enclosures, and across stored materials creates safety hazards, accelerates corrosion, and damages stock and equipment. Effective moisture management — whether addressing a liquid spill, controlling ambient humidity, or protecting stored components from condensation — reduces maintenance costs and keeps the workplace safe. AIMS Industrial supplies cleaning and moisture management products for workshops, factories, and industrial storage applications across Australia.

Spill Absorbents and Floor Dry

Liquid spills on workshop and factory floors must be controlled immediately to prevent slip incidents and environmental contamination. Granular absorbent products — floor dry, oil dry, and oil absorbent granules — are applied to spills to absorb liquid into a solid granule that can be swept up and disposed of safely. Standard floor dry is made from calcined clay and absorbs oils, fuels, and water effectively. Organic absorbents (cellulose-based) are lighter and dispose more easily but have lower absorbency than clay products.

Loose absorbent granules are most effective for large uncontained spills. Absorbent socks, pads, and booms are better for containing spills at their source or for soaking up smaller, defined liquid pools around machinery without scattering granules across a wide area.

Desiccants and Humidity Control

Desiccant products absorb moisture from the air, reducing relative humidity in enclosed spaces — shipping containers, storage cabinets, electrical enclosures, and machine internals where condensation is a problem. Silica gel desiccant sachets are the most common format for small enclosed spaces. Container desiccant products (calcium chloride-based) handle larger volumes for container shipping and larger enclosed storage. Desiccants are particularly important for protecting bearings, tooling, instruments, and electronic components during storage or sea freight, where condensation cycling can cause rust and corrosion on unprotected metal surfaces.

Condensation and Surface Protection

In humid environments or facilities with temperature variation between day and night, exposed metal surfaces can develop condensation that initiates surface rust. Temporary surface protection products — volatile corrosion inhibitor (VCI) films, papers, and coatings — release inhibitor vapour inside a sealed package or bag, protecting metal surfaces from moisture-induced corrosion without a surface coating that must be removed before use. VCI products are standard practice for storing precision machined components and tooling between production runs.

Anti-Slip Treatments

Wet floors in high-traffic areas require anti-slip treatment to maintain safe footing. Anti-slip floor coatings, grit strips, and anti-slip matting reduce the risk of slip incidents in areas subject to water, oil, or cleaning product exposure. Regular cleaning of anti-slip surfaces is essential to maintain their effectiveness — contamination fills the anti-slip texture and reduces the grip they provide.
