PVC vs Polyurethane Coiled Hose
PVC coiled hoses are cost-effective and suit general workshop use in controlled temperature environments. They can stiffen in cold conditions, which reduces the recoil performance. Polyurethane coiled hoses maintain their flexibility across a wider temperature range — important for outdoor or early-morning use in cooler Australian climates — and are more resistant to abrasion and oil contamination on the workshop floor. For demanding trade and site use, polyurethane is the preferred material.
Lengths and Fittings
Coiled air hose assemblies are specified by their extended length (not coiled length) — typically 5m, 7.5m and 10m extended. The internal bore (typically 6mm or 8mm) determines flow capacity; 8mm bore hoses reduce pressure drop and are preferred for impact wrenches and high-flow tools. Hoses are typically supplied with 1/4" BSP male fittings on both ends, ready for use with standard Australian air couplings.
Mounting
Coiled air hoses can be used hand-held from an overhead reel point or fixed connection, or paired with retractable hose reels for even more convenient tool-side storage.
