Garden Sprayers

Garden and chemical sprayers apply liquids — herbicides, pesticides, fertilisers, and fungicides — accurately and efficiently to plants, soil, and surfaces. The right sprayer for a given application depends on the volume required, the area to be covered, the chemical being applied, and the available operator effort. Hand Trigger and Pump Sprayers

Hand trigger sprayers are the simplest form — a bottle with a trigger-actuated pump nozzle. Suitable for small-area spot treatments, cleaning applications, and laboratory use. Volume is limited by the container size (typically 500ml to 2L) and flow is produced by continuous trigger action. Pump-up sprayers use a manual piston pump to pressurise the container before spraying; once pressure is built up, the spray is continuous until pressure drops. These are suitable for areas too large for hand trigger sprayers but where a knapsack is unnecessary.

Knapsack and Backpack Sprayers

Knapsack sprayers are carried on the back, leaving both hands free for accurate spray direction and nozzle control. They are the standard for commercial herbicide and pesticide application over moderate areas. Capacity ranges from 12L to 20L in most practical configurations. The hand-operated pump lever pressurises the tank during spraying — continuous lever action maintains spray pressure. Quality knapsack sprayers use chemical-resistant seals, anti-drip nozzles, and padded shoulder straps for operator comfort over extended use periods. Cleaning and flushing with clean water after each use prolongs seal and diaphragm life.

Pressure and Vehicle-Mount Sprayers

Engine-driven or electric pressure sprayer units cover large areas from a vehicle-mount or stationary position. Boom sprayer attachments, wand extensions, and adjustable nozzle assemblies enable precise application patterns. These are specified for large property maintenance, turf management, and agricultural applications.

Chemical Compatibility

Sprayer seals, tanks, and nozzles must be compatible with the chemical being sprayed. Most agricultural chemicals are compatible with polyethylene tanks and Viton or EPDM seals — but concentrated acids, solvents, and some industrial chemicals require specialist chemical-grade materials. Getting the Most from Your Garden Sprayer

Regular maintenance extends sprayer life significantly. After each use, flush the tank and nozzle assembly thoroughly with clean water to prevent residue build-up that can block jets or degrade seals. Inspect nozzle tips for wear — worn tips cause uneven spray patterns and inconsistent coverage. Store sprayers with the pressure released and the cap loosened to protect the tank seals. For chemical applications, always check compatibility between the chemical being applied and the tank material to prevent degradation of plastic components over time.
