The Gasket Sealants Range

Our product Loctite range covers RTV silicone gasket makers, anaerobic flange sealants and gasket eliminators in a range of formulations and pack sizes for automotive and industrial applications.

• Loctite RTV Silicone Gasket Makers: Loctite’s RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanising) silicone gasket makers cure on exposure to atmospheric moisture to form a flexible, oil- and coolant-resistant seal. They are used as a gasket replacement on timing covers, valve covers, oil pans, water pump faces and other low-load sealing applications in engines and gearboxes. Different grades cover temperature ranges from standard to high-temperature (e.g. exhaust manifold sealing) and are available in red, blue, black and grey formulations matched to different operating conditions.
• Loctite Anaerobic Flange Sealants: Loctite’s anaerobic flange sealants cure in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces to form a rigid, solvent-resistant seal. Anaerobic flange sealants are preferred for rigid metal-to-metal flanged joints on pumps, compressors and hydraulic systems — they fill machining marks and surface imperfections and provide a uniform seal across the entire flange face.
• Loctite Gasket Eliminators: Loctite’s gasket eliminator products are designed to replace conventional cut gaskets entirely on metal-to-metal flanged joints. They are thinner and more rigid than RTV silicone gasket makers, suited to close-tolerance joints where gasket thickness must be controlled.

Choosing the Right Gasket Sealant

Gasket sealant selection depends on the fluid being sealed, the operating temperature, the joint type and whether flexibility or rigidity is required.

• RTV Silicone for Flexible Joints: Use RTV silicone gasket maker where some joint movement or vibration is expected, and where the joint will need to be disassembled for future servicing. RTV remains flexible after cure and can be cut through cleanly at disassembly.
• Anaerobic for Rigid Flanges: Use anaerobic flange sealant on rigid metal-to-metal flanged joints where maximum pressure resistance is required and the joint will not flex in service. Anaerobic sealants require degreased, close-fitting metal surfaces — they will not cure on large gap joints or non-metallic substrates.
• Temperature Rating: Confirm the sealant’s maximum temperature rating covers the expected operating temperature of the joint. Standard RTV formulations are rated to around 200°C; high-temperature grades are required for exhaust and turbo applications above this.
