Heavy Duty Drive Belts — Industrial V-Belts & Wedge Belts
V-belts and wedge belts are the most widely used power transmission drive in industrial equipment — providing reliable, slip-free torque transmission between motor and driven machine over a wide range of speeds and loads. Drive Belts We Stock
- Classical V-Belts (A, B, C, D Section): Classical V-belts to ISO 4184 standard — A (13mm top width), B (17mm), C (22mm), D (32mm). Gates Hi-Power II classical V-belts for industrial fans, compressors, agricultural drives, and general equipment replacement.
- Narrow Wedge Belts (SPZ/SPA/SPB/SPC): Narrow (wedge) V-belts provide higher power transmission in a narrower profile than classical belts — allowing more belts per drive or smaller pulleys for the same power.
- Banded (Joined) V-Belts: Banded V-belts tie multiple belt ribs together in a single assembly — preventing belt turnover and whipping on pulsating or long-centre-distance drives. Standard for large compressors, jaw crushers, and drives subject to vibration or power surges.
- Raw Edge (Cogged) V-Belts: Raw edge cogged V-belts have a cut (cog) bottom surface that reduces bending resistance on small-diameter pulleys — providing higher efficiency and longer belt life than standard wrapped belts on the same drive geometry.
V-Belt Selection & Maintenance Guide
- Belt Cross-Section Selection: Narrow (SPZ/SPA/SPB/SPC) belts transmit more power per belt width than classical (A/B/C) — use narrow belts for new designs or when upgrading existing drives. Classical belts are the correct replacement for existing classical-sheave drives.
- Replace in Sets: When replacing V-belts on a multi-belt drive, replace all belts simultaneously — mixing old and new belts distributes load unevenly, overloading the new belts and shortening the service life of the set.
- Belt Tension is Critical: Under-tensioned V-belts slip, overheat, and wear prematurely. Over-tensioned belts overload bearings and stretch cord prematurely. Gates provides tension gauges and specification tables for correct installation tension by belt section and drive centre distance.
