Standard nylon and fibre washers are adequate for most industrial panel building and general electrical assembly at normal operating temperatures. For elevated temperature applications, glass-filled nylon or phenolic materials offer better performance. Always verify that the washer through-hole diameter is sized to accommodate the fastener shank without metal contact — even a small contact area defeats the insulating function and can create a ground fault path that is difficult to locate later.
