Washers — Flat, Wedge-Lock, Structural, Spring & Copper Washers

AIMS Industrial stocks a comprehensive range of washers in 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel, galvanised steel, copper and specialist materials — covering flat round washers, mudguard (repair) washers, wedge-lock washers, Belleville disc spring washers, structural washers, spring lock washers and copper sealing washers.

We sell washers from Nord-Lock, Schnorr, Hobson, Bremick, Bumax, Inox World & Champion — trusted names in fastener supply across mining, construction, marine, food processing and general industry.

Flat Round Washers — Stainless Steel

Standard metric flat round washers distribute fastener load across a larger bearing area, preventing the bolt head or nut from pulling through or damaging the fastened material. Hobson, Bremick and Inox World supply metric flat round washers across common sizes from M4 through M30+ in both 304 and 316 stainless steel.

304 Stainless Steel (A2): General engineering, food-grade and light marine applications. Suitable for most indoor and sheltered outdoor installations.

316 Stainless Steel (A4): Required for high-corrosion environments — marine fittings, coastal infrastructure, chemical plant and food processing where chloride resistance is critical. Never substitute 304 for 316 in saltwater or bleach-contact applications.

Wedge-Lock Washers — Nord-Lock

Nord-Lock wedge-lock washers are a mechanically engineered vibration-resistant fastening solution. Supplied in pairs, each Nord-Lock washer pair uses a wedge-locking action: the cam faces on the inside surfaces create a positive locking effect that prevents the fastener from loosening under vibration, dynamic load or thermal expansion and contraction. Unlike spring washers or thread-locking fluids, Nord-Lock washers do not lose clamping force over time and are reusable.

Nord-Lock wedge-lock washers are specified to the Nord-Lock engineering standard and are widely used in heavy machinery, rail, mining equipment, structural steel and any application where bolt loosening due to vibration is a critical failure risk. They are compatible with standard metric and imperial fasteners.

Safety Washers — Schnorr

Schnorr conical spring (safety) washers provide a disc-spring clamping action under bolt heads and nuts. The conical form stores elastic energy that maintains clamp load under vibration and thermal cycling, preventing fastener loosening without thread-locking compound. Schnorr safety washers are manufactured to DIN 6796 (conical spring washers for bolted connections) and are used in automotive, agricultural machinery, rail and general engineering applications.

Mudguard (Repair) Washers

Mudguard washers have a significantly larger outer diameter relative to their inner diameter — used where a standard washer bearing area is insufficient. Common applications include sheet metal repair, rubber panel fastening, plastic enclosure assembly and anywhere the fastening surface is soft, thin or damaged. Supplied in 304 stainless and 316 stainless from Hobson and GJ Works.

Copper Sealing Washers

Champion CWC series metric copper flat washers are used where a soft, deformable sealing washer is required at a hydraulic fitting, fuel system or high-pressure connection. Copper yields under bolt load to form a leak-proof seal at the fitting face — copper is preferred over steel or aluminium for this application due to its low yield strength and high malleability. Sized to metric standards.

Spring Lock Washers

Standard split spring lock washers from Hobson & Bremick provide a simple anti-rotation function under bolt heads and nuts in vibration-exposed assemblies. Note that spring lock washers are generally not recommended for structural bolted connections — Nord-Lock or Schnorr safety washers are more effective where reliable vibration resistance is required.

Premium Stainless — Bumax & Mackay

Bumax supplies premium high-performance stainless steel washers to pair with their high-strength stainless bolts and screws, where standard A4-70 stainless washers would be the weak point in the assembly.

Washer Selection Guide

Grade selection: 304 stainless (A2) for general and food-grade applications. 316 stainless (A4) for marine, coastal and chemical environments. Galvanised steel for structural applications in sheltered environments. Copper for hydraulic and fuel system sealing.

Metric sizing: Flat washer sizing is specified by the bolt diameter the washer is used with (e.g. M8 washer suits an M8 bolt). For non-standard assemblies, confirm inner diameter (ID), outer diameter (OD) and thickness.

Vibration resistance: Nord-Lock wedge-lock washers for maximum bolt retention under vibration. Schnorr conical spring washers (to DIN 6796) for spring-loaded clamping force. Standard split lock washers provide only light anti-rotation in low-vibration applications.

Structural applications: Specify structural washers and high-strength bolt assemblies per AS/NZS 1252 for structural steel connections. Contact our team to confirm the correct specification for your structural loading and environment.

Mudguard vs standard: Use mudguard washers where the fastening surface is soft, thin, rubber or damaged and requires a larger bearing area to prevent pull-through.
