Choosing a Nord-Lock washer
Start with the bolt size and thread: metric (M) or UNC (inch). Then pick the material for the environment. Delta Protekt coated steel is the general choice, 316L stainless suits wet or corrosive conditions, and SMO 254 is listed for more demanding corrosive environments. The standard washer is the usual choice. The large O.D. versions have a bigger outside diameter and suit oversized holes or softer surfaces. The X Series and SC Steel Construction washers are separate series, so check the data sheet for the bolt classes and joints each one is made for.
Nord-Lock washers are installed as a pair with the cam faces together, and the pair is fitted under the bolt head or nut. Always fit the full pair, and use a new pair when you reassemble a joint. A single washer, or washers from different pairs, will not give the locking action.
