Choosing a wedge lock washer
Wedge lock washers are chosen by bolt size, thread (metric or UNC) and material. Use the standard washer for most joints and the large O.D. version where you need a wider bearing area, for example over an oversized hole. Delta Protekt coated steel is the general choice, 316L stainless suits wet or corrosive conditions, and SMO 254 is listed for more demanding corrosive environments. Check the data sheet for the bolt class and joint each series is made for.
Fit the pair with the cam faces together under the bolt head or nut, and use a new pair when you reassemble. Compare with the other locking options: spring washers and tooth lock washers are general purpose anti-loosening aids, while Schnorr safety washers are a different spring-type washer.
