• Blade Retraction Safety: Use retractable knives in environments where accidental blade contact is a risk — fixed blade knives should only be used where constant cutting is performed and safe carry is not a concern. Auto-retracting knives provide the highest level of passive blade safety.
• Blade Grade for the Application: Standard carbon steel blades are adequate for light cutting. Bi-metal blades (HSS cutting edge on flexible body) provide superior edge life for corrugated cardboard, hard plastics, and continuous cutting tasks. Stainless steel blades are available for food processing and chemical environments.
• Ergonomic Handle Design: Tajima and Olfa knives are designed with ergonomic grip profiles that reduce hand fatigue in high-volume cutting. Rubberised over-moulds and textured grip zones reduce the grip force required and improve control.
