Mixed Plier Sets

A mixed plier set is the right way to outfit a toolbox — three to seven pliers chosen to cover the daily mix of gripping, holding, cutting, and bending tasks, packed in a single tray or roll. AIMS Industrial stocks mixed plier sets from the brands tradespeople actually trust, in sizes that suit electricians, mechanics, fitters, and general maintenance crews.

What's typically in a mixed set

  • Combination pliers — the all-rounder for gripping, twisting, and light cutting
  • Long-nose (needle-nose) pliers — for tight access and small fastener work
  • Side cutters (diagonal cutting pliers) — for clean, square cuts on wire and cable ties
  • Water-pump pliers (multigrips) — adjustable jaw for plumbing and pipe work
  • End cutters — for nail and pin removal
  • Lock-jaw pliers — for vice-grip-style holding and clamping (in larger sets)

Brands you'll find here

Wiha, Bahco, and Stahlwille are the core stocked brands for plier sets — chosen because they hold tolerances, the cutting edges stay sharp, and the handle insulation actually grips when your hands are dirty. Bahco is the all-rounder for trade work, Wiha and Stahlwille step up for electrical and precision applications. Channellock is stocked for water-pump pliers where the brand is preferred.

VDE / electrical insulation

If you're working live or near live conductors, the set needs to be VDE-certified to 1000V. We stock VDE plier sets specifically for electrical work — the insulation is two-layer, drop-tested, and stamped with the certification mark. Don't substitute non-VDE pliers in electrical applications.

Set or singles?

Sets give you a coordinated kit at a better per-piece price; singles let you build a kit to your own preference. Most apprentices start with a 5-piece set and add specialist pliers (locking, end cutter, electronic mini-set) as the work demands.

Care and storage

Pliers last longer when they're treated like the precision tools they are. Wipe coolant and oil off the joint before storing — coolant residue rusts the pivot, and dust mixed with oil grinds the joint smooth. A drop of light machine oil in the pivot every few months keeps the action smooth. Store pliers in a roll, tray, or hanger — bottom of the toolbox is where pliers go to die.

Replacing one piece versus the whole set

Most quality plier brands sell individual replacements, so a worn-out side cutter doesn't mean replacing the full set. Worth checking the singles range when one piece in the set has been doing more than its share of the work — economical to replace, and lets the rest of the set stay in service.
