VDE for electrical work

For work near live electrical conductors, side cutters must be VDE-certified to 1000V. The certification covers two-layer insulation, drop testing, and dielectric strength. Cutting energised conductors is dangerous and should not be attempted; for cutting in panels with live components nearby, VDE certification provides protection if a slip contacts a live part. Don't substitute non-VDE cutters in electrical applications.
