Buy Needle Roller Bearings Online in Australia
Needle Roller Bearings
Needle roller bearings use long, slender rollers (length-to-diameter ratios above 4:1) packed close together in the bearing body. The result is a high load capacity in a very small radial cross-section — exactly what designers need when there's plenty of axial space but the housing diameter is constrained. AIMS Industrial supplies needle roller bearings from the established Japanese and European brands, in the configurations Australian engineering and maintenance teams actually use.
The configurations we stock
- Drawn cup needle bearings — thin-walled steel outer cup with needle rollers retained inside, for press-fit installation directly into a housing bore
- Solid race needle bearings — full-thickness machined outer race for higher load and stiffer mounting
- With inner ring — supplied with a separate hardened inner ring for shafts that aren't hardened and ground to bearing-quality finish
- Without inner ring — for shafts that have been hardened (HRc 58-65) and finished to suit needle running directly on the shaft
- Caged versus full-complement — caged for higher speeds, full-complement for higher load at lower speeds
- Combined needle and thrust bearings — for housings that need to take both radial and axial load in a single component
Where needle bearings earn their place
Anywhere radial space is tight but axial space is available — automotive transmissions, planetary gearboxes, universal joints, rocker arm pivots, hydraulic motors, and small-bore housings on industrial equipment. They handle high radial loads relative to their cross-section, but they're not the right choice where axial load is significant (use angular contact or thrust bearings for that) or where shaft alignment is poor (needle bearings are sensitive to misalignment).
Brands stocked at AIMS
The needle roller bearing range at AIMS draws from NSK, NTN, Koyo, IKO, and FYH — Japanese and brand-equivalent manufacturers that supply the OE bearing market and dominate the industrial replacement segment. Each brand has a slight specialty within the bearing world (NSK is strong in automotive, IKO is needle-specialist, Koyo is broad industrial), but for needle bearings any of them will deliver to spec.
Selection guidance
Sizing starts with the housing bore, shaft diameter, and operating load. With/without inner ring choice depends on whether the shaft is hardened to bearing-quality. Check shaft surface finish and hardness before specifying without-inner-ring versions — running needles on a soft or rough shaft destroys the bearing in hours.
