Power Pipe Threading Machines
Power pipe threading machines transform pipe threading from a manual, slow trade into a workshop-grade production operation. A machine that threads a 1-inch pipe in 30 seconds replaces a manual threading process that takes 3-5 minutes — over a day of plumbing or fabrication work, the time saving compounds enormously. AIMS Industrial supplies power pipe threading machines for plumbing trade, fabrication shops, and industrial pipe work.
The machine types we stock
- Bench-mounted threading machines — fixed installations that handle larger pipe sizes (typically up to 4 inch), the workshop standard
- Portable threading machines — wheeled or hand-carry units for site work, typically up to 2 inch capacity
- Universal threaders — threading machines that handle both pipe and conduit, with quick-change die heads
- Replacement die heads — for keeping existing machines in service across multiple thread standards
Sizing — match to the work
Threading machine capacity is rated by the largest pipe size the machine can thread. For everyday plumbing trade work, capacity to 2 inch covers most jobs (a smaller portable might be the right call). For commercial and industrial pipework, 3 inch or 4 inch capacity is essential. For specialty applications (sprinkler systems, large-diameter water supply, industrial process pipework), larger machines beyond 4 inch may be needed — those are typically project-specific equipment rather than standing trade kit.
Threading speed and motor specifications
Threading machine motor power and speed determines how fast it threads larger pipe. Smaller machines (1.5 hp) handle up to 2 inch comfortably but slow down on larger pipe. Mid-range machines (2-3 hp) handle 3 inch easily. Heavy industrial machines (5+ hp) handle 4 inch and beyond at full speed. Match motor capacity to the pipe size mix you'll routinely thread.
Die heads and consumables
Threading machines use replaceable die heads sized for specific pipe diameter ranges and thread standards (BSPT, NPT, BSPP). For mixed work, multiple die heads are common — change heads as the work changes. Within the die head, the threading dies (chasers) wear over time and need periodic replacement. Symptoms of worn dies are increasing torque required, ragged thread surface, and visible chipping. Replace dies before they fail completely; bad threads cause leaks.
Brands stocked at AIMS
The power pipe threading machine range covers trade-grade equipment from approved manufacturers. For specific brand requirements (Ridgid, Asada, Reed), contact our team for current options and lead times — we can source through our distribution channels for items not standing-stocked.
Threading practice
Cut the pipe square first (use a power pipe cutter or a quality manual cutter — not a hacksaw, which leaves angled cuts that produce poor threads). Mount the pipe rigidly in the machine's chuck or pipe stand. Apply threading oil generously throughout the cut — pipe threading without lubricant tears threads and ruins dies fast. For tapered threads (BSPT, NPT), the natural thread depth limits where the cut stops; for parallel threads, cut to the depth specified for the fitting.
Safety
Power pipe threading machines have rotating chucks that grip and rotate pipe at threading speed — loose clothing, jewellery, and long hair caught in the chuck cause serious injury. Use the supplied guards, ensure pipe is supported properly, and don't reach across the rotating chuck during operation.
