Security Bits for Tamper-Resistant Fasteners in Australian Industry

Security bits drive the tamper-resistant fasteners used to deter unauthorised access on public infrastructure, electrical equipment, vending machines, public-area fittings, and security-sensitive installations. Where standard Phillips, Torx, or hex bits would let anyone with a basic toolkit access the fasteners, security profiles add geometric features that require matching specialist bits. AIMS Industrial supplies security bits across the common tamper-resistant profiles for trade and industrial customers.

The security bit profiles we stock

  • Torx security (TR / TT) — Torx with a central pin in the bit that fits a hole in the fastener; the most common security profile in modern applications
  • Security hex (pin-in-hex) — hex bit with a central pin; used in some electrical and electronic equipment
  • Tamper-proof Phillips — Phillips with a central pin; older-style security fastener
  • Spanner-drive (pin-spanner) — bit with two prongs that fit holes in the fastener head; common in public-area fittings
  • Tri-wing — three-wing bit profile used in some electronics and consumer products
  • Torq-set — offset cross-drive used in aerospace and some industrial fastenings
  • Snake-eye — two-pin bit for security applications

Where security bits earn their place

  • Public infrastructure — bus shelters, signage, street furniture, public-area equipment
  • Electrical and electronic equipment — fastenings on equipment requiring authorised-only service
  • Vending and ATM machines — public-facing equipment with internal security requirements
  • Public restroom fittings — fixtures requiring tamper resistance
  • Building services — sub-mains, access panels, and serviceable installations in public areas
  • Vehicle and rolling stock — tamper-resistant fastenings in transport and rail equipment

Standard versus impact-rated

Security bits, like other 1/4 inch hex shank bits, come in standard and impact-rated versions. If you're using an impact driver to install or remove security fasteners, spec impact-rated bits — they have a torsion zone in the shank that survives impact loads where standard bits snap. For hand screwdriver use, standard bits are fine.

Bit length

Most security bits are stocked in 25mm and 50mm lengths. For deep-recess fasteners (some electrical equipment, vehicle interior fittings), longer 75mm and 100mm bits are available on indent.

Brands stocked at AIMS

Wiha and Bahco cover the security bit range with the tip accuracy and durability that quality work requires. The Wiha range in particular has strong product depth across security profiles, including specialty bits for less common security fasteners. Cheap unbranded security bits often have soft pins that bend on the first stiff fastener, making them effectively single-use.

Sets and individual bits

Security bit sets cover the common profiles in a hard case, suitable for service technicians and maintenance teams handling varied work. Individual bits in specific sizes are stocked for replacement and specialist applications. For workshops handling regular security-fastener work, a quality set plus singles for the high-wear sizes is the practical approach.

Companion ranges at AIMS

Security bits sit alongside our broader screwdriver bit range — see screwdriver bits, Phillips power bits, Pozidriv power bits, and security fasteners for the related products.
