Stainless Steel Ball Bearings

Buy Stainless Steel Ball Bearings Online in Australia

Stainless steel ball bearings are the corrosion-resistant alternative to standard chrome steel (52100/100Cr6) bearings. Where chrome steel rusts in the presence of water, washdown chemistry or salt air, stainless steel keeps running. AIMS stocks EZO stainless ball bearings across the miniature, small and standard metric series, suited to food and beverage processing, dairy, pharmaceutical equipment, marine applications, water treatment, and chemical handling. Speak with our team about non-standard sizes — special-order through our wholesale partners is straightforward.

When to choose 304 vs 316 Stainless Steel

Both grades resist corrosion far better than chrome steel, but they're not interchangeable. The cost difference is small; the application difference is significant.

Grade Best for Avoid in
304 / AISI 440 stainless (food-grade) Food processing, dairy, beverage, general washdown Chlorinated or seawater environments
316 / AISI 316 stainless (marine-grade) Marine, coastal, chemical handling, pharma, chlorinated wash environments Where 304 is sufficient — 316 costs more

Most off-the-shelf "stainless ball bearings" use AISI 440C race material with stainless cages. For genuinely aggressive chemical environments, ask our team about AISI 316 / 316L options or full ceramic alternatives.

Available Series & Bore Sizes

EZO stainless ball bearings cover the full small-bore range, from 3 mm bore (miniature instrument bearings) up to 25 mm bore (general industry small-frame). For larger bores in stainless, contact our team for indent-order through Koyo, NSK or NACHI premium ranges.

Series Bore range Typical use
620 / 6200 3 mm – 12 mm Light-duty small-frame motors, food-equipment rollers
630 / 6300 4 mm – 20 mm Heavier radial load small-frame
680 3 mm – 10 mm Instrument and miniature precision
690 / 6900 3 mm – 20 mm Thin-section general-purpose

Sealed vs Shielded vs Open

Stainless ball bearings come in three closure styles. The closure controls how much grease stays in and how much contamination stays out.

  • Open — no seal or shield. Use only when downstream sealing is handled externally, or when you're packing custom grease.
  • Shielded (ZZ) — metal shields keep larger contaminants out but allow some moisture ingress. Good for clean dry environments.
  • Sealed (2RS) — rubber contact seals. The right choice for washdown, splash, food and marine applications. Slightly higher friction but vastly better contaminant exclusion.

For food processing and pharma washdown, 2RS sealed is the default.

Applications

  • Food & beverage processing — conveyor rollers, mixing equipment, packaging line idlers, bottling pumps
  • Dairy — milking equipment, CIP-cleaned conveyors, cheese-processing rollers
  • Pharmaceutical — tablet presses, capsule fillers, blister-pack equipment, autoclavable assemblies
  • Marine — outboard accessories, winch idlers, boat trailer rollers, fishing reels
  • Water treatment — pump shaft bearings, dosing equipment, UV reactor assemblies
  • Chemical handling — dosing pumps, mixers, exposed-shaft assemblies

Standards & Quality

EZO and other premium stainless ball bearings are manufactured to ISO 15 [VERIFY: current edition year] for rolling bearing boundary dimensions and to ISO 9001 [VERIFY: current edition year] quality management standards. Material composition follows ASTM A276 for stainless bar stock and ASTM A485 for high-carbon corrosion-resistant bearing steel where AISI 440C races are used [VERIFY:]. For washdown environments certification, look for NSF H1-listed food-grade greases — see our Tap Magic and CRC food-grade lubricant ranges.
