Choosing a spring
Start with the job. Compression springs push apart when squeezed, extension springs pull back when stretched, and accelerator springs are the longer return springs. Then match the size. Our spring sizes are listed as three dimensions in millimetres, so check the listing for how each is measured, and compare against the spring you are replacing, including the free length and the fit in its housing. Choose stainless steel where the spring will be exposed to moisture or corrosive conditions. If you are replacing a spring on an assembly and are unsure of the size, an assortment kit is a practical way to keep the common sizes on hand.
