10-24 UNC Allthread Rod, 316 Stainless Steel - ATRA41024UNCX3

Made in 316 (A4) stainless steel, the Allthread Rod UNC is a straight rod threaded along its full length. It is cut to length and used with nuts and washers to hang, tie, clamp or span between two fixing points.

A4 (316) stainless steel contains molybdenum (about 2 to 3 per cent), which improves its resistance to chlorides. It is the grade normally chosen for coastal, pool, marine and food-processing settings, and it costs more than A2 (304). UNC (Unified National Coarse) is the coarse inch-based thread. Small sizes are given as a number and threads per inch, such as 8-32 or 10-24, and larger sizes as fractions of an inch.

Austenitic stainless steel is generally non-magnetic, although cold-worked parts can show weak magnetism. Stainless threads can gall (seize) when tightened under load or at speed. A smear of anti-seize on the thread and a steady tightening speed reduce the risk.

Selecting the right option

Match the thread system to the nuts and fittings you already have: metric coarse, metric fine, UNC and BSW rods are not interchangeable. Cut rods can leave a burr, so run a nut over the cut end before use.
