They can also be used to create a new female thread in non-ferrous metals and plastics. National Pipe Straight Fuel (Dryseal) is a variation of the Dryseal thread. It is used for internal threads and an NPTF external thread can be screwed into it to provide both a satisfactory mechanical connection and hydraulic seal. A combination of a parallel and tapered thread would not appear to be ideal but it is widely used, making it a reliable machine tap.
