CRC Throttle Body & Air Intake Cleaner 400g
Out of stock
CRC Throttle Body & Air Intake Cleaner is an aerosol blend of liquid hydrocarbon cleaning compounds, specifically formulated to remove harmful deposits from throttle bodies and air intake systems in fuel-injected vehicles. CRC says stalling and rough idling are often caused by deposits building up in the throttle body.
It is sprayed into the throttle body bore through the extension tube while the butterfly valve is moved by hand. CRC says not to use it on vehicles equipped with superchargers or diesel engines.

Selecting the right option
CRC says to use this cleaner with CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner each time the air filter is serviced; see CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner Aerosol 300g. For intake valves see CRC GDI IVD™ Intake Valve & Turbo Cleaner Aerosol 312g.
Using it
Always follow the recommendations in the equipment manufacturer's instruction manual. Do not use on vehicles equipped with superchargers or diesel engines.
Warm the engine to normal operating temperature, then switch it off. Disconnect the air hoses and wires on the air intake duct between the throttle body and the air filter box, then disconnect the duct from the throttle body and inspect it for leaks or tears. Place a cloth under the throttle body.
Shake the can and attach the extension tube. Spray into the throttle body bore while moving the butterfly valve back and forth by hand. Remove dissolved deposits with a clean cloth and clean the throttle linkages; the product leaves a lubricating residue.
Reconnect everything, start the engine and rev it for a few minutes to flush out all product. Idle speed may be higher than normal for some time until the ECU adjusts to the new air flow properties.
Storage and handling
Do not puncture, incinerate or store above 50 °C. Keep away from live electrical sources.
Limits and safety
DANGER. Extremely flammable aerosol; pressurised container that may burst if heated. Harmful in contact with skin and if inhaled. Causes skin irritation. Causes serious eye irritation. May cause respiratory irritation. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. UN 1950, Class 2.1, poison schedule S5. Flash point below 10 °C. Not for vehicles with superchargers or diesel engines. Read the safety data sheet before use.
Frequently asked questions
Can CRC Throttle Body & Air Intake Cleaner be used on diesel or supercharged engines?
No. CRC's data sheet says not to use it on vehicles equipped with superchargers or diesel engines.
Is it safe on throttle body coatings and sensors?
CRC states it is safe on coatings, sensors, O-ring seals and other sensitive components, and does not harm the factory coatings on modern throttle bodies. Follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions.
Why is idle speed higher after cleaning?
CRC says idle speed may be higher than normal for some time until the ECU adjusts to the new air flow properties.
What is the flash point of CRC Throttle Body & Air Intake Cleaner?
The safety data sheet (03 Apr 2025) gives below 10 °C and classes it as an extremely flammable aerosol, UN 1950 Class 2.1. CRC's data sheet and page print below 0 °C.
What are the health hazards of CRC Throttle Body & Air Intake Cleaner?
The safety data sheet classes it DANGER: harmful in contact with skin and if inhaled, skin and serious eye irritation, respiratory irritation, and drowsiness or dizziness. It contains xylene 20 to 40%.
Do I need to warm the engine first?
Yes. CRC says to warm the engine to normal operating temperature, then switch it off before disconnecting the air intake duct.
