EZO SS634-ZZ Shielded Stainless Miniature Ball Bearing 4 x 16 x 5 mm

This EZO range covers 5 stainless steel miniature single row deep groove ball bearings, shielded (ZZ), from 4 to 10 mm bore, with outer diameters of 16 to 35 mm and widths of 5 to 11 mm. Select the size from the drop-down: each size has its own bearing number and dimensions in the Model Details. The range also includes the SS6300-ZZ (10 mm bore).

Deep groove bearings are the most widely used ball bearing type. They carry radial loads and axial loads in both directions, run at high speed and need no adjustment. The rings and balls are stainless steel, which resists corrosion much better than standard bearing steel in damp or mildly corrosive conditions. The two pressed steel shields (ZZ) hold the grease in and keep larger particles out without adding seal friction.

Selecting the right option

Pressed steel shields (ZZ) retain the grease and keep larger particles out without touching the inner ring, so friction stays low and speed capability high. A shield is not a seal: fine dust and moisture can still enter, so choose 2RS where dust, splashes or damp are present.

The rings and balls are martensitic stainless bearing steel. It resists corrosion far better than standard high carbon chromium steel, but not as well as 304 or 316 stainless, so it is not suited to seawater, acids or continuous immersion. Match the bearing to the fluids and cleaning agents in the application.

Load ratings and speeds are published for the SS6300-ZZ only; for the other stainless sizes on this page, size the bearing with a generous margin and contact AIMS to check it against your load and speed.

Fitting and use

Check the load and speed against the figures for your size before ordering and apply a suitable safety factor. Deep groove bearings must always carry a minimum radial load so the balls roll rather than slide, and heavy axial loads should be checked with AIMS before ordering.

Press on the ring that is being fitted, not the other ring or the balls: force goes through the side face of the inner ring on a shaft and through the outer ring in a housing.

Shielded bearings are lubricated at the factory and built for inner ring rotation. Do not wash them or heat them before mounting, and do not rely on them for high speed outer ring rotation.
