Calcium grease uses a calcium-based soap (or in newer formulations, a calcium sulphonate complex) as the thickener that holds the lubricating oil in place. Calcium sulphonate greases are valued for water resistance, corrosion protection and load-carrying performance, which makes them a common choice for industrial bearings, joints and exposed gear teeth working in wet or dirty environments.
