Loctite SF 7649 Activator for Anaerobic Adhesives 133ml
Out of stock
Loctite SF 7649 is an activator for Loctite anaerobic adhesives and sealants. It is a transparent, green, very low viscosity liquid based on a copper salt and an aliphatic amine in acetone. It is an activator, not a surface primer.
Use it where faster cure is needed: especially on passive metals, inert surfaces and large bond gaps, and when the prevailing temperature is low (below 15 °C). Spray or brush it on, let the solvent evaporate, then apply the anaerobic product and assemble.
Where this product is used
- Speeding the cure of Loctite anaerobic adhesives and sealants
- Passive metals and inert surfaces
- Large bond gaps
- Cold conditions, with the prevailing temperature below 15 °C
- Porous surfaces, which may need two treatments
Features

Selecting the right option
Loctite 7471 Primer T Surface Preparation Activator Aerosol 133g is the other activator in the range. Loctite SF 7649 is green, and parts can be bonded within 1 month of activation.
For polyolefins bonded with cyanoacrylate adhesives, the product to use is a primer: see Loctite SF 770 Polyolefin Primer 100ml.
Using it
Spray or brush onto both mating surfaces. One may be enough for small gaps; porous surfaces may need two treatments.
Let the solvent evaporate fully, with good ventilation. Apply the anaerobic product and assemble immediately. Where possible, move the surfaces slightly against each other.
Never mix the activator and the adhesive directly as liquids. Do not return used material to the container.
Storage and handling
Highly flammable and light sensitive. Store unopened in a dry location, optimally between 8 °C and 21 °C. Do not return used material to the container.
Limits and safety
Do not mix the activator and the adhesive directly as liquids. The solvent can affect certain plastics or coatings, so check compatibility first. Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials. Read the safety data sheet before use.
Frequently asked questions
What does Loctite SF 7649 do?
It is an activator that speeds the cure of Loctite anaerobic adhesives and sealants, especially on passive metals, inert surfaces, large bond gaps and below 15 °C.
How long does it take to dry and how long does it stay active?
It dries in 30 to 70 seconds at 20 °C. Bond parts within 1 month of activation (on-part life 30 days or less).
Can I mix Loctite SF 7649 with the adhesive?
No. Henkel says the activator and the adhesive must never be mixed directly as liquids.
Is Loctite SF 7649 a primer?
No. The Henkel data sheet describes it as an activator for anaerobic adhesives and sealants. It does not prepare plastics for bonding.
Does Loctite SF 7649 have approvals?
The Henkel data sheet lists ANSI/NSF Standard 61 for commercial and residential potable water systems not exceeding 82 °C, and NSF Category P1 (no possibility of food contact). Henkel marks both as regional approvals. Contact AIMS if you need a certificate for a specific application.
Is Loctite SF 7649 flammable?
Yes. It is classified as highly flammable (acetone solvent) and is light sensitive. Store it unopened, in a dry location.
