SKF Mudblock MUD11 Cassette Seal 35x65 mm, NBR70

The SKF Mudblock MUD11 is a cassette seal for off-highway use. The seal and its wear sleeve form one unit, so the shaft does not need to be ground or hardened. The unit is held together by a curl, which keeps it assembled during transport and installation.

The outside diameter is half metal and half rubber, which helps static sealing and holds the seal in the housing. The main lip is spring-loaded and is backed by pre-greased auxiliary radial and axial lips that guard against liquid and solid contaminants. The standard lip material is an SKF nitrile rubber (NBR) compatible with most synthetic oils.

Widths are SKF's published values. SKF's published MUD11 table does not list the 35x65, 45x70, 48x75, 75x100, 85x110, 85x125, 120x150, 160x190 sizes, so their widths are shown as Contact AIMS.

Selecting and fitting

Match the shaft diameter d and bore diameter D to your application. SKF specifies a shaft tolerance of h8 and a housing bore tolerance of H8, both with a surface roughness of Ra 1.6 to 3.2 µm.

Fit the seal into the housing bore using a proper installation tool. The tool should stop the seal reaching the bottom of the housing and leave a small clearance against the seal inside diameter. Then introduce the shaft.
