The HMSA10 is an SKF CR Seal with a rubber outside diameter, a spring-loaded main sealing lip and a non-contacting auxiliary lip.
An oil seal has two main parts: an outer cylindrical casing that is a press fit in the housing bore, and a sealing lip that runs on the shaft. The lip is what keeps oil or grease in and contamination out at the point where the shaft passes through the housing.
The sealing material is NBR (nitrile rubber). SKF describes its standard nitrile rubber as a general-purpose sealing lip material that resists most mineral oils and greases, normal fuels such as petrol and diesel, animal and vegetable oils and fats, and hot water, and that tolerates short-term dry running.
SKF publishes the HMSA10 range for oil or grease lubricated applications with a circumferential speed up to 14 m/s and a maximum operating pressure of 0.03 MPa. Each of these is a maximum for its own condition, and they should not occur together.

Check the shaft diameter, housing bore diameter and seal width against your application before ordering, and use the dimensions in the sizes table above. The shaft surface the lip runs on must be clean and free from scoring. If the shaft is worn at the seal position, a shaft repair sleeve fixes this without replacing the shaft: SKF Speedi-Sleeve.
